We make photo printing easy at Peterborough Camera, Copies & More, but once you have your photos, what do you do with them? You don’t want them going from one place where no one can see them—your phone—to another place no one will see them—a closet or photo album. You take photos to preserve and share memories, so the best ones deserve to be displayed in your home.
Photo printing is just the first step! Next is displaying them in your home. Here are some creative ways to show off your photos.
Create a Gallery Wall
To create a gallery wall, pick a wall in a visible place—like the living room or hallway—that is well-lit but does not receive direct sunlight. (Direct sunlight will fade your photos.) If you have more than one space to hang photos, that’s even better, so you can group them by theme. Gather photos of family milestones, travel memories, or another meaningful grouping of pictures. You can also get your favorite photos printed in black and white for an artistic look or select seasonal photos for a rotating display.
Once you’ve selected your photos, the next step is to determine the layout. You can arrange them in a grid for a clean, modern look, or go bold with a floor-to-ceiling salon-style layout. If one photo really stands out, print it in a larger size and make it the centerpiece, with other photos arranged around it. Matching frames give a cohesive look, while mixed styles have a more eclectic look. You can also print your photos on art canvas if you prefer frameless photos.
Make a Statement: Large Format Prints
To make your photo display stand out, don’t limit yourself to smaller 4×6 or 5×7 photos. 8×10 prints or even larger sizes will really show off your photos. A wall of all large-format photos can be overwhelming, but a mix of sizes creates visual interest and highlights your favorite photos. Larger prints work especially well for landscapes or portraits. A framed large print photo isn’t the right look for every room, so a frameless canvas print can be a preferable alternative.
Think Beyond the Living Room
While we usually think of hanging photos in spaces our guests are likely to see, the rest of your home can benefit from photos, too. Fill your kitchen with candids of cooking with family and friends or group shots of holiday meals. If your home office is a little bland, fill it with photos of your family and friends or your favorite places. When you’re trapped in your office working all day, it’s easy to forget why you’re working so hard in the first place.
